Established in 1971 in Loveland, the company initially focused on kitchen cabinets. At that time they were doing several kitchens per week, says Director of Sales Mike Fralic. But as new construction exploded in the area, Tharp grew as well. “Tharp added space and employees to keep pace,” explained Fralic. “In addition to single-family, residential kitchen, bath, laundry and closet cabinetry, Tharp’s expansion over the years now enables us to supply cabinetry for multi-family residential and commercial construction customers as well.”
Today, Tharp is Colorado’s largest custom cabinet manufacturer and is proud to employ 135 team members. While most of their business comes from Colorado, they have customers in Wyoming, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah, and even as far as Florida.
As their reputation and client base has grown, so has their physical space. Having outgrown their original showroom, they recently relocated to a new showroom. Located at 380 West 37th St. in Loveland, the new 170,000 square-foot space is nearly double the size of their old space. Its layout also allows for a much smoother operational flow. The original facility was composed of seven “loosely connected” buildings that totaled 90,000 square feet.
“It was a challenge to operate efficiently within the confines of that structure,” Fralic said.
“The move to our 170,000 square-foot new building provides us with a contiguous space that is laid out specifically for our ‘Lean Manufacturing’ processes,” he explained. “We have room for expansion in the shop to support our desired growth, as well as a beautiful new enlarged showroom that displays many of the design options that we can manufacture for our customers.”
When customers enter the 4,000 square-foot showroom, they can browse a wide array of cabinet choices, which includes styles from rustic to modern and everything in between.
No matter what style you’re looking for, Tharp has you covered. “Our professional designers are adept at working with our customers, the vast majority of whom come to us with specific wants and needs for their project,” says Fralic. “Many of our customers have designs that they have seen on TV, in print media or in person that we help personalize to their home.”
To provide the latest in cabinet design, team-members regularly attend industry events such as the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas. Fralic says they make a point of attending every year “so that we are seeing trends, designs, and products before they become popular in our regional market.”
Every style of cabinet can be made with one of 11 different types of wood and various hand-rubbed stains and painted finishes, all of which are available in samples that customers can take home. To make the process as easy as possible, designers are always available for personalized assistance.
From there the process is very simple. There’s an electronic form to fill out that captures the basics of your project. Once that form is complete, customers are asked to provide detailed measurements. Once the Design Salesperson has consulted with the customer and obtained the necessary project details, Tharp provides a detailed quote with elevations within a few business days.
When you work with Tharp you can rest assured all of your cabinets are made locally by people who care. Says Fralic, “We manufacture all of our products here in Loveland. Tharp provides delivery and installation services by our highly trained staff.”
Not only will your cabinets be made well, they’ll be made fast. Fralic boasts “industry-leading lead times.” Typically, once an order is submitted, customers will receive their order in five to six weeks.
Tharp is unique in that they create a high-quality product quickly – and they do it while providing excellent customer service at every single step. Fralic tells us that Tharp’s owner Garth Rummery has a saying: “Our competitors build boxes. Tharp provides ‘an experience.’” Customers can expect one-stop shopping, including design consultation, detailed quotes with drawings and material breakdown, delivery, and installation. Fralic said they pride themselves on “quick lead times for manufacturing, which means quicker project completion, Tharp-trained expert delivery and installation services, and beautiful custom crafted cabinetry that makes our customers happy.”
While customers love Tharp for its excellent products and service, staff loves the team culture and commitment to honesty. “People here operate with integrity and transparency,” said Fralic. “We have the same challenges that most companies are faced with; we are open and honest with the team and seek everyone’s input so that we can present the best experience possible for our customers.” Tharp also provides its employees with opportunities for growth. Team members can cross train and move into other roles within the company.
Locally owned and operated since it’s inception, Tharp knows a thing or two about how to employees and customers right. Their tagline says it all: “We are nearly 50 years in the market.
We know what we are doing!”
