LONGMONT – Mac Equipment is known as the premier company in Northern Colorado for outdoor power equipment sales and service. Now celebrating its 21st year, the local company’s success is a story of hard work, family, and an abiding commitment to customers.
“The story starts in 1983, when the four McCrimmon brothers started We Care Lawn Care,” explains Hannah McCrimmon, sales associate. “Ronald was 23; he helped on the weekends. Christopher was 19; he helped fund the equipment purchases; John was 15, and Clifton was 11 years old.”
The brothers got their first clients by going door to door. They did a good job cutting their neighbors lawns from spring through fall, and word spread that these guys were good. By 1987, We Care was mowing more than 100 lawns every week – using just push mowers. After making the step up to commercial grade machines, they again grew the business to more than 400 properties a week and three crews.
In the meantime, Ronald and Christopher had gone to Kohler engine repair school to learn how to keep their own fleet of mowers running. They started working on other people’s machines, and soon they had a new service department.
With all of their real-world expertise in landscape services and equipment, the McCrimmon brothers decided the time was right to “put a roof on it.” They opened their flagship store in Loveland in 1995 and a new Longmont location in 2013.
Today, Mac Equipment is your local dealer for outdoor power equipment sales, service, and parts. You’ll find the leading brands here: Honda, Toro, Echo, Hustler, Stihl and Husqvarna. The Service Department is second to none, with a fully equipped workshop to service all makes and models.
The Walker advantage: Walker Mowers
The McCrimmon brothers’ relationship with Walker Mowers began out of necessity. By 1987, the McCrimmon’s lawn care business had become successful and it was time to invest in a commercial mower.
“My dad and his brothers got the opportunity to take a Walker mower for a trial run,” Hannah McCrimmon says. “The guys knew within the first ten minutes that they had to have one of these mowers!” Bringing the Walker mower onboard meant they could now provide a lawn service that was truly a cut above. “They’ve had a long-time connection with the Walker brand, first as customers and now as an authorized dealer. They value the relationship across all the years.”
Today, Walker Mowers are produced in the company’s factory in Fort Collins and distributed throughout the United States and 28 other countries. Each Walker model has been built from the inside out to achieve a balance of durability and performance.
Walker Mowers are known for the quality of their cut over many terrains. With a front deck that is independent of the tractor, it floats and flexes over the turn and easily follows contours. The catching mowers capture cut grass in a collection hopper, leaving behind a manicured, beautifully striped lawn.
The S-Series by Walker is the original design that established their brand in the world of commercial lawn equipment. It is designed to be compact and maneuverable. The S14 is a great machine for homeowners and owners of large properties. Deck options range from a 36- to 42-inch cut, with up to 30 hp engine options.
The T-Series are popular with lawn maintenance professionals who demand durability. The T23 offers the perfect balance of power, agility and versatility. The MT is Walker’s most advanced tractor series, and the MT 25i is a favorite. MT models even include decks up to 74 inches.
Hustler Mowers, built on innovation
Mac Equipment is proud to be an authorized dealer for Hustler commercial and residential mowers. Hustler Mowers have been around since 1964, and were the first to feature a zero-turn radius that allows for higher precision mowing, in less time. Each Hustler mower is sourced and manufactured in the USA. Sturdy welded steel decks, large drive tires and exclusive Smoothtrak steering are all hallmarks of the Hustler brand.
“They did a lot of research on mid-mount and zero-turn mowers,” Hannah McCrimmon says. “And then they sent Clifton to do the Hustler test demo, since he has a reputation for breaking things.” It was clear by the end of the trial run that Hustler would stand up to rigorous duty, and more.
The Raptor residential mower is an excellent choice for homeowners who may be maintaining up to an acre of property. It is available in four models: Raptor, Raptor SD, Raptor Flip-Up and Raptor Limited. Each delivers a speedy mowing time, low maintenance requirements and legendary durability. Raptor models start at $2,799 for a 42” cutting deck.
Hustler mowers are the pride of many professional grounds crews and HOA’s as well. There are nine commercial models to complement every grounds maintenance program. The FasTrak SD is available in three deck sizes and features a bolstered internal suspension seat. The FasTrak SD starts at just $6,699 for the 48” deck model.
The Super Z Hyperdrive is one rugged machine! It’s the top-of-the-line commercial zero turn mower, and can be paired with an array of attachments to really put your machine to work. A three-blade mulch kit or two-bag grass catcher gets your cutting jobs done quickly and cleanly. The Super Z Hyperdrive comes with an unmatched 5 year 3000 hour warranty on the pumps, engine and wheel motors. Super Z Hyperdrive models start at $13,299 for 60-inch cutting deck.
