When all schools are weighed – including public, private and for-profit universities – University of Colorado Boulder’s undergraduate offerings are No. 99 overall in U.S. News & World Report’s national “Best Colleges” rankings for 2022.
Additionally, U.S. News & World Report ranked numerous CU Boulder undergraduate programs in the top-20 among public institutions for 2022.
The well-respected Leeds School of Business placed 20th among public universities and 30th overall and the College of Engineering and Applied Science earned a number of strong rankings. The engineering program claimed the No. 28 position among public institutions whose highest degree is a doctorate and 31st overall. Other engineering programs scoring high are:
• Aerospace engineering ranked No. 6 among public institutions and 10th overall.
• Environmental engineering claimed No. 9 among public institutions and 15th overall.
• Chemical engineering landed No. 14 among public institutions and 22nd overall.
• Civil engineering is No. 17 among public institutions and 27th overall.
• Computer science earned No. 18 among public institutions and 37th overall and the artificial intelligence specialty ranked No. 14 among public institutions and 26th overall.
• Mechanical engineering hit No. 18 among public institutions and 30th overall.
• Electrical engineering ranked No. 19 among public institutions and 31st overall.
University of Colorado Boulder’s undergraduate enrollment in fall 2020 totaled 30,300. CU Boulder is the flagship campus of the statewide system consisting of four campuses: University of Colorado Boulder, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, University of Colorado Denver in downtown Denver and at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

U.S. News & World Report assessed 1,466 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality. The Best Colleges rankings is now in its 37th year. Data for graduate programs are typically released in the spring. For further exploration, college profile pages benchmark each school’s performance across ranking indicators and include the latest statistics used in the calculations – such as the student-faculty ratio and the average federal loan debt of graduates.
